Embrace the Present: Why Yesterday and Tomorrow Don’t Matter

The Power of the Present Moment

In my personal journey, one crucial lesson has been learning to stay present. For too long, I dwelled on the past. In earlier blogs, I discussed the subconscious mind’s role and how it often holds us back with negative programming from childhood.

Breaking Free from the Past

Our subconscious minds can often hold us back with negative programming from our past. This can lead to depression and anxiety.

I’ve also explored the anxiety about an uncertain future and why we fret over things beyond our control. But true peace is found in the present moment.

Letting Go of Future Anxiety

Worrying about the future is a common human tendency, but it's rarely productive. In fact, most of our worries never materialize.

Embracing the Now

By living in the present moment, we can find peace and happiness. This simple shift in perspective can transform our lives.

**Yesterday is gone, tomorrow hasn’t come. So why not embrace today? **

This quote, which I encountered frequently in an old day planner, resonates deeply with me. Lao Tzu once said:

If you are depressed, you are living in the past.

If you are anxious, you are living in the future.

If you are at peace, you are living in the present.

Understanding this was a turning point. Living in the past can lead to depression, as our subconscious minds replay old, negative patterns. You can read more about how this affects us [here].

Conversely, obsessing over the future often means we’re missing out on today. Research shows that 85% of our worries never come to pass, and of the remaining 15%, less than 12% occur as expected. In reality, less than 3% of what we worry about actually happens as anticipated. So why waste 97% of our energy on an uncertain future?

Conclusion:

Ultimately, peace resides in the present moment. Imagine your past on one side of a scale and your future on the other. The equilibrium—the peaceful center—is today. To cultivate this mindset, refer to my previous blogs on [When Your Mind Overwhelms You] and [Our Minds are Like a Garden]. These resources offer practical advice on how to fully embrace and live in the present.

  1. I agree with this wholeheartedly.. my current struggle is being back in therapy and the past resurfacing in my life. So as I heal I am hoping this to be more prominent.

    1. Thank you for sharing your thoughts and yes, as you heal this will become more prominent. The key is to continue celebrating small wins each day that keeps you moving forward. Always remember the rear-view mirror is small so spend little time reflecting on yesterday and more of your time on today.

The Comfort of a Good Book: Why I Love to Read

#35 11/03/2024      The Comfort of a Good Book: Why I Love to Read In this blog post, I’m excited to explore the numerous benefits of reading and share why it holds a special place in my heart. In 2018, I committed to rediscovering the joy of books, embarking on a personal growth journey that made me realize something crucial was missing. Completing my first book was a powerful reminder that reading was the missing piece of my puzzle. Why Reading Matters Reading offers countless advantages, making it both a fulfilling hobby and a vital discipline. In today's fast-paced world, it's essential to navigate distractions like social media, television, and constant smartphone notifications. While these tools have their benefits, reading stands out as one of the most effective methods for personal growth and development. As an advocate of the "10 pages a day" approach, I believe that committing to this small daily goal can yield significant results. If you read just 10 pag...
